Practical information for mobile students
Kufstein is a small city where almost everything is within walking distance. The FH Kufstein is situated in the center of town and can be easily reached by foot, bike, bus and car.
The city bus system is very convenient and connects all parts of Kufstein. The regular price of a single trip is €0.90 and discounts are available for students with a valid student ID card from the FH Kufstein. If you use the bus system regularly, you can get a better value for your money by purchasing a weekly, monthly or yearly bus pass.
If you prefer getting around by car, please be aware that parking on street is permitted only in the marked areas. Parking is metered, so be sure to buy a parking ticket in advance from one of the many machines set up on the sidewalks. The maximum amount of time that can be purchased per ticket is 90 minutes; if your errands or activities take longer, be sure to return in time to purchase another ticket. There are also numerous public parking garages and lots scattered around Kufstein. While these facilities can be a bit more expensive, the advantage is that you always pay when you exit the facility so you don’t have to worry about time limits and being hit with parking fines. Residents of Kufstein may also purchase an annual parking permit, which allows them to park on the street in the zone around their home.
The FH Kufstein only has a very limited number of parking spaces on the premises for students. Students who come by car are advised to use the nearby public parking facilities:

Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB)
Exploring Austria by train is convenient, safe, and relatively inexpensive. All major Austrian cities are connected by rail and are served by the fast InterCity and EuroCity trains, and most of these east/west and north/south bound trains also stop in Kufstein. Countless other picturesque towns and quaint villages can be reached with the local trains (also in combination with regional buses).
The “VORTEILScard” (literally: “ADVANTAGEcard”) of the ÖBB, which is valid for one year from the date of issue, enables students to buy train tickets to destinations anywhere in Austria at half price. For students under the age of 26, the card costs €19.90 per year (ask for the VORTEILScard <26). For those who are 26 or older, the annual fee is €99.90 (ask for the VORTEILScard Classic). The card can be ordered at all major train stations; simply bring along an ID card or passport as well as a passport photograph. The VORTEILScard may also be ordered through the ÖBB website.
