Technology review selects FH Kufstein contribution as food for thought of the week

15.06.2018 | Research
A research paper on predicting the construction period of buildings by means of automated image recognition is one of the five “most thought-provoking papers” of Physics arXiv for CW 16 as chosen by the magazine Technology Review of MIT.

“Automatic Prediction of Building Age from Photographs” – is the title of the research paper that five researchers, three from FH Kufstein Tirol submitted to the Physics arXiv of the Cornell University Library.

Contributions from researchers from Kufstein and St. Pölten

Miroslav Despotovic, MA, Prof. (FH) Dr. David Koch and FH President Prof. (FH) PD Dr. Mario Döller of FH Kufstein Tirol as well as FH-Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Mag. Dr. Matthias Zeppelzauer and Muntaha Sakeena, Engr., BSc, MSc. of FH St. Pölten are the authors.

Building determination by means of image recognition

In the paper, the authors describe the automatic determination of the construction phase of a building via the recognition of facade photos. The development of the respective software and the underlying database is part of the research project ImmoAge.

Each week, Technology Review, a magazine of MIT – Massachusetts Institute of Technology, selects five publications of the Physics arXiv of the Cornell University Library that provide the most food for thought for the editorial team. In calendar week 16 of 2018, the article “Automatic Prediction of Building Age from Photographs” was one of these.
