Excellent research and development services are a necessary precondition for current, theory-supported and scientifically based teaching. Additionally, sustainable research and development services ensure the institutional and individual competence of FH Kufstein Tirol and its scientific staff. Successful and innovative research is centrally important in order to ensure competitiveness within the national and international university landscape and expediently enhance the attractiveness of the Austrian business location and economy.
The general goal of the R&D activities of FH Kufstein Tirol is to develop a clear and application-oriented research profile at the university location and firmly anchor this profile within the “scientific community” and the consciousness of the interested public.
Lighthouse Project Digitalization.Tourism
The project aims to establish the Achensee region as an attractive place to work and use innovative digital solutions to create a regional employer brand. In the long term, this concept should serve as a model for other tourism regions and industries and be flexibly expandable.
SpecDrone
The project goal is to expand the applications of drones by improving flight precision and implementing swarm algorithms for cooperative control and orientation of drones. These developments will enable the use of gas sensors based on open-path spectroscopy to effectively scan large areas for emission sources such as methane.
Resilient Tourism
The "Resilient Tourism" project aims to implement initiatives to increase crisis resilience in the destinations of the project regions Bavaria, Tyrol and Salzburg.

The Drones4VET project is an Erasmus+ funded project focusing on a transnational training program for the use of drones in the construction sector.

Hydrogen Drone
Hydrogen drones, by their very form of propulsion, represent a solution that could significantly extend the flight times of drones. Combined with lightweight construction and an innovative tank design, the aim of this project is to increase flight time by a factor of six.
Center of Excellence for Drone Research
This research center aims to develop a technical framework for the detection of hazardous materials using drones. It will further address how such a framework can be implemented in an operationally safe way. As a particular use case, the center will also present concrete measures that would allow the framework to be integrated into the workflow of fire departments within the context of disaster operations, covering such aspects as alerts, deployment, and documentation.
Tourism as an Attractive Profession
The image of employers in the tourism industry in the states of Tyrol, Salzburg, and Bavaria does not live up to the great potential of the sector. Together with industry partners, this project will develop ways to increase the attractiveness of this line of employment.

LiDAR Wind Measurement Nussdorf – Erl
This project investigates the wind phenomenon known as Erler Wind, which occurs in the border region between Tyrol and Bavaria. The phenomenon is defined by the mountain and valley winds typical for the alpine region, which accelerate strongly due to the significant narrowing of the Inntal Valley in the border region, forming a low-level jet stream.

The research project tirol.energie.digital (Tyrol – Energy – Digital) at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol investigates the advantages of smart meters for customers and their benefits for utility companies.

Das Ziel des Projekts BeSoGreat ist die Entwicklung und Herstellung biologisch abbaubarer Kunststoffprodukte aus Biertreber durch Spritzguss und 3D-Druck, um regionale Wertschöpfungsketten zu fördern und die Kreislaufwirtschaft durch innovative biobasierte Lösungen zu stärken.
