Kufstein University of Applied Sciences, Tyrol: Worldwide among the best in student mobility

04.04.2016 | General
In 2016, U-Multirank published its third global university ranking. The Kufstein University of Applied Sciences, Tyrol, came a brilliant 10th in the category of student mobility and is the only Austrian university listed as a top performer within this category

U-Multirank 2016–the largest global university ranking–compares 1,300 universities from more than 90 countries covering over 3,250 departments and 10,700 degree programs.

The Kufstein University of Applied Sciences, Tyrol, was awarded the 10th place in student mobility, a performance indicator of the dimension of international orientation. The ranking is based on the number of international incoming students, outgoing exchange students, and international joint degree programs.

“We are overwhelmed by this excellent result,” exclaimed the University’s managing director, Prof. Thomas Madritsch, PhD. Pleased with the result, he continued by stating that “since our inception in 1997 we have been living our international orientation and have continually developed it further. For us, the most important aspect is student mobility, a field in which we are Austria’s frontrunner. It is great that this is now confirmed by a global ranking of 10th place. The global ranking also confirms the very high value of student mobility and proves the University’s success in positioning itself as an international university.” Madritsch concluded: “We will use this outstanding evaluation result as an incentive to continue on our path and to further improve our activities.”

U-Multirank 2016 results: US universities have dominated rankings for years due to their strong research focus. However, numerous other dimensions equally important for university education, such as teaching and learning, knowledge transfer, regional engagement, and international orientation were thus overshadowed. With U-Multirank’s 2016 publications including 10 individual performance lists presenting the 25 best universities worldwide according to certain single-performance indicators, such criteria are finally being acknowledged and give smaller universities the possibility of ranking high in areas such as student mobility or income from continuous professional development. For the Kufstein University of Applied Sciences, Tyrol, these performance-specific rankings are an excellent opportunity to compare itself with the best of the best and to prove its worth.

Only two Austrian universities are among the top performers

A total of 17 Austrian universities took part and only two–both of them universities of applied sciences–were ranked among the top performers.

The 17 Austrian universities that took part are the universities of Graz, Salzburg, Vienna and Innsbruck, the medical universities of Graz, Vienna, and Innsbruck, the Vienna University of Technology, the Vienna University of Economics and Business, the University of Natural Resources and Live Sciences, Vienna, the Johannes Kepler University Linz, the MODUL University Vienna, the Carinthia University of Applied Sciences, the University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt, the IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems, and the Kufstein University of Applied Sciences, Tyrol.
