International Program for Incoming Students: Certificate for Technical Courses
Exchange students choosing to spend a semester at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol not only benefit from practice-oriented teaching and a cosmopolitan atmosphere on campus but can also take advantage of the University’s varied International Program (IP). The International Program consists of English-medium courses specifically designed for incoming students as well as subjects from the University’s regular bachelor’s and master’s degree programs taught in English. It thus covers courses attended by both incoming and local students, thereby providing a unique platform for international exchange that promotes and supports the long-term integration of incoming students. The subjects in the International Program are taught in part by the faculty of the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol as well as by visiting professors from abroad. The courses cover a wide range of issues in the field of management but also various other subject areas, among them technology.
Ten Students Receive Award
Last semester, incoming students for the first time had the opportunity to receive the cumulative certificate Product Development Using Innovative Technologies for their successful completion of technical courses. The certificate honors incoming students for their eagerness to tackle technically complex issues and to take on new challenges, a social skill that will set them apart in later professional life, particularly when applying for jobs. In addition, the certificate opens access to independent work in the Makers Lab at the University of Applied Sciences Kufstein Tirol, as the laboratory license required for such work is integrated into the courses leading to the certificate.
Students had to complete three out of a selection of four courses to be awarded the certificate, an opportunity that a total of ten incoming students took advantage of. At the end of the program, they could not only be proud of their innovative projects, but also of having received the award, a point reinforced by the handcrafted medals that course instructor Ing. Markus Ehrlenbach, MSc, presented to them to mark the occasion. Nino Osadze and Javier Galván Serrano were particularly interested in the technical courses offered and chose to attend every single one of them. Among the most selected courses were Rapid Prototyping Technologies (a course providing an overview of rapid prototyping technologies used in product development), Basics of Electronics (a course on the fundamentals of electrical engineering and electronics and the use of related measuring equipment), and Fundamentals of Programming Microcontrollers, where students practice and ultimately implement their own IoT (Internet of Things) project using the Arduino physical computing platform.
Certificate Courses Offered This Winter Semester
This upcoming winter semester, incoming students can again choose from a variety of IP courses to receive ECTS credits. The final enrollment phase for these courses will be during the Orientation Days, where students will receive all relevant information about courses they are interested in, including schedules. Starting in October, students will once again have the opportunity to attend technical courses and to be awarded a cumulative certificate. For such a certificate, three of the five courses offered must be completed successfully. This is the case if a complete project documentation is submitted at the end of the course. This Winter Semester 2023/2024, students can choose from among the following technical courses: Rapid Prototyping Technologies (a course providing an overview of rapid prototyping technologies used in product development), Rapid Product Development (a creative workshop in which all phases of the product development process are practiced with reference to a physical product), Basics of Programming Microcontrollers (a course in which students practice and ultimately implement their own IoT (Internet of Things) project using the Arduino physical computing platform), Innovation Management (a course providing theoretical background knowledge on the development of innovations), as well as R&D Management, a course giving insight into the management of research and development processes from the perspective of companies of different sizes.
